Piano moving in Hertfordshire, London and nationwide
Piano Moving by Professionals
A piano is one of the trickiest pieces to move for several reasons. One, a piano is a delicate instrument; any misstep and you could end up ruining the integrity of the whole thing. It is also expensive, meaning that any damage to it will cost a pretty penny to fix. There is also the matter of weight to consider. Some pianos are very heavy and attempting to move one alone can cause injury. For this reasons, hiring professional piano movers is highly recommended when moving house or buying the musical instrument. At Richard Lawson Pianos, we provide piano moving in London and the surrounding areas.
Suitable Tools
Piano moving requires specialised tools such as dollies. The design of a piano can make it hard to transfer it from one place to another without damaging some parts. By using appropriate tools, movers can lift a piano of any size. Movers use skids to wheel a piano from one point to another, thereby, reducing the chances of it falling. A professional piano moving company like ours takes the necessary measures to ensure that a piano gets all the protection it needs. Wrapping it with blankets or padding material is one way to ensure that it remains intact through transit.
The Route
Another aspect we take care of is establishing the best path to get a piano in or out of your home. In the case of a grand piano, getting it through doorways can be quite a hassle. Using the wrong route will not only damage the piano but the house as well. When providing services for piano moving in Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas, we take the time to assess your home. We measure hallways, stairways, doorways, and everything else that matters to guarantee safe passage.
Richard Lawson provides piano movers with experience on how the instrument functions. It is why they know the parts that need the highest level of protection when moving. For the piano moving cost, we offer our clients affordable alternatives without compromising the superiority of the service.

Tuning Temperaments
How many piano tuning temperaments are there?
There are countless variations, but most fall within three major categories;
1. Meantone, which generally concentrated the dissonance into a few unusable intervals (often called "wolf" intervals), so that the others could be Just. These are often called "restrictive" tunings, since there are certain intervals that are not usable. Good intervals are really good, bad ones are really bad. The Meantone era was approx. 1400-1700
2. Well-Temperament, which gives more consonance to the most often used keys, and more dissonance to the lesser used ones. Though not equal, these tunings are "non-restrictive" because all intervals can be used. The intervals range from Just to barely acceptable. Well-temperament refers to a genre, not a specific tuning. The Well-Tempered era is approx. 1700-1880.
3. Equal Temperament, which spreads the dissonance equally among all intervals.
There is no difference in consonance or dissonance between any keys, thus, there are no good ones or bad ones. Equal temperament represents a complete average. Dates of its acceptance are debated, but there is ample evidence that it was widely available by 1900 and is the predominate tuning on keyboards, today.
