I am highly qualified and experienced in teaching piano and music theory. My credentials are supported by my strong interest in teaching and performing which I believe enhances what I can offer to the pianists of all ages.
I have an excellent working knowledge of both ABRSM and Trinity curriculum. Many of my pupils have received outstanding marks in both their Practical, Performance Grades and Theory exams. I have developed teaching methods tailored to each individual pupil. My fundamental teaching ethos is that the pupils should enjoy playing the piano and that they are able to feel a sense of satisfaction from the progress they make. I provide appropriate strategies to overcome problematic aspects by demonstration and explanation, and teach so that pupils will develop independence in their learning process. I advise them on what they need to do in their weekly practice and how to do it in a flexible manner, and respect and acknowledge their efforts in their attempt.
I am also enthusiastic about promoting progression and high standards of achievement, and so I inspire my pupils to explore music-making and encourage them to participate in performing opportunities. I have successfully prepared some of my pupils for senior school music scholarships and international competition awards at the New Talent British International Youth Music Competition and Around the Globe Piano Music Festival among others. The concerts I regularly organize for my pupils support the learning goals of those preparing for their exams while for others, they are simply a means of gaining performing experience in an informal environment.

Tuning Temperaments
How many piano tuning temperaments are there?
There are countless variations, but most fall within three major categories;
1. Meantone, which generally concentrated the dissonance into a few unusable intervals (often called "wolf" intervals), so that the others could be Just. These are often called "restrictive" tunings, since there are certain intervals that are not usable. Good intervals are really good, bad ones are really bad. The Meantone era was approx. 1400-1700
2. Well-Temperament, which gives more consonance to the most often used keys, and more dissonance to the lesser used ones. Though not equal, these tunings are "non-restrictive" because all intervals can be used. The intervals range from Just to barely acceptable. Well-temperament refers to a genre, not a specific tuning. The Well-Tempered era is approx. 1700-1880.
3. Equal Temperament, which spreads the dissonance equally among all intervals.
There is no difference in consonance or dissonance between any keys, thus, there are no good ones or bad ones. Equal temperament represents a complete average. Dates of its acceptance are debated, but there is ample evidence that it was widely available by 1900 and is the predominate tuning on keyboards, today.
