Any opinions or views?

Post by maxheadroom »

Anyone got any info or views or thoughts on a Yamaha P112 NTS? Info regarding quality, particularly against the M108, (I already own one), and thoughts on the silent aspect of the P112 as this is important due to my circumstances. Any thoughts would be helpful as usual!
Many Thanks

Best Regards

P112NTS was replaced a few years ago with the P114S and then the P114GSG, so check out its age by the serial number and have a tech check out the condition. In Europe, P series uprights were built in the now defunct Yamaha-Kemble factory in Milton Keynes and aren't much different to the M108.

Regarding the silent system on Yamaha uprights, there is a slight compromise in touch due to the increased set-off distance required to enable the silent system to operate. So even when in non silent mode, you have at least 6mm of set-off compared with around 2 or 3 mm on a conventional piano. This increased set-off means the player has less action response when playing very softly and or trilling softly, especially when having to play a key or keys closer to the fulcrum. (You're likely to experience the hammer not always hitting the string on those very soft notes). Many people notice no difference as the Yamaha action is so good anyway, but it's best to know this before you buy...( BTW, Yamaha silent grands do not suffer from this increased set off.)
