Post by Annette Rushmere »
I am trying to date my piano. It is an upright with a wooden frame and has WG Hedges on the front with Skerratt above it. Inside it has the number 3280. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi! I have just answered the same enquiry from your email! No dates of numbers are available for either of these names. Email me some photos.

Hi :)
I was googling my piano maker and came across this post. I also have an upright piano that belonged to my great grandmother, it was purchased from a music shop in Eastleigh Hampshire called W.G.Hedges. Did shops get their name put on instruments made elsewhere?

Yes, my Numbers page
http://www.pianohistory.info/names.html
explains that many piano names are meaningless.
I will see if I can look up anything about Hedges.
Skerratt is a better-known name.
If you can post photos here to show what the whole piano looks like, this may help.
