Is my Grotrian Steinweg worth restoring?

Post by rpthomas »

I have a 1920 Grotrian Steinweg 6'4 Grand. It is in need of considerable restoration both to the case and the action and soundboard. Is it worth restoring, and who should I approach to do the work?

Form the make yes, as to who depends where you live
Depending on how much work is needed you could be looking as much as 15,000 for a full re-build that would include a new soundboard for that price.

I have a customer who's having one restored at the moment and I'm overseeing the work. I have to say that in this case it is certainly proving to be worth it and would agree and say by make, yes it probably would be worth it.

Hi,

if you still have the piano and are not planning to have the restoration done for yourself, would you perhaps be interested in selling? I'm looking for a good, probably German grand of that sort of size, and your Grotrian would certainly be of interest.

best wishes,

Steve.
