Berry with ashtrays and electric lights

Post by Karen17 »

Dear Berry Pianos I have a slightly unusual Berry piano, Serial no. 39311. It has ashtrays under the keyboard and electric lights at either end of the keyboards. It is fitted with the new improved grinder bars, has a metal frame and is walnut in colour. It is in excellent condition. I was wondering if you could provide an estimated valuation and maybe a little background? I have owned it for 30 years. Many Thanks Karen.

It is not unusual to find Berry pianos with ashtrays and lights. I worked for Berry in the sixties, and have tuned many of these. The girder bars label was around for some years before your piano, so it doesn't help us.
Nobody anywhere can guess the value or condition of a piano without inspecting it on the spot and checking how well it holds in tune, so your local tuner is the best person to ask.
Are you able to post photos to show us what the whole piano looks like?

Hello Bill,

Thank you for reply, I have some lovely photos which I have tried to attach, they are jpegs and I do not know why this forum will not allow me to attach them, Please can you advise if there is a specific way to do this ? I have gone to attachments and add files but no luck.
Many Thanks,

I'm sorry they have a problem with downloading photos, |I wrestle with it every time. If you want to email them to me, I will attempt to post them here.

Thank You Bill,

Do you mean send to piano history, I'm not sure where the link to upload photos is there, it's a bit confusing at first glance, is there a specific email address I can send them to?

Many Thanks, Karen

It's not a link, it's the email address, which is not on here because it causes so much spam.

Unfortunately, the published dates of Berry numbers don't go this high, but it seems to be late 1950s.
I already explained that I don't do valuations.

Sorry, my mistake, the number suggests that it was in 1938.
