W.Gutzeit, Berlin Piano

Post by bowenlaura »

I have an 1853 German made piano that I cannot locate any information about. Here's the information I have...

W. Gutzeit, Berlin W.
Gegrundet 1853 (there is this " above the u)
Hoflieferant Sr. Kgl. Hoheit
des Grossh. Friedr. v. Baden
Franzosischestr. 15 ( " above the o)

Here's a photo. As you can see the piano is not in very good condition.

Gutzeit German Piano

"Gegrundet" means the company was established in 1853, this is not the date of the piano. It looks more like 1923. They still existed in 1928, but I have no details.

Re: Antique German Piano

Post by vernon »

the bit"Hoflieferant -----Baden" means that this chap Prince Friedrich was a patron to this piano company in his petty Court in Baden. They probably presented him with one.
After German Unification in 1870 he would have disappeared and married one of our royals.
Our mission in life is to tune customers--not pianos.

Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it

Thanks for the info! I have been searching other online sites and hadn't gotten anywhere. I mainly wanted to make sure the piano wasn't a valuable antique. I think I'll upcycle the piano parts into other, useful items. Thanks again,
Laura

Here's a cropped version of your photo, in case your link goes out of date when some other Gutzeit owner is looking for it.

My collection includes over 40,000 piano names, and the majority are not listed on the internet, so thanks for showing it to us.
