Bechstein A190 vs Petrof Storm (194)

Post by fbinaus »

I'm buying a new piano for home use and am trying to choose between the above options. The prices are not very different - around 6% more for the Bechstein. Assuming I get the same pleasure from playing each (yet to be confirmed after the shops get them into top playing condition), what are people's opinions on the alternatives please?

For that price you could look at

Yamaha C3, C6, S4, S6
Kawai RX3, RX6
Shigeru Kawai SK3
Bluthner Model 6
Bosendorfer CS perhaps?
New York Steinways if you are willing to travel.
Schimmels, Sauters, Seilers, Steingraebers,
Bostons (heard the latest ones are very good)
Brodmann, Wendl und Lung all these more up market chinese makes...

Any amount of rebuilt pianos..... the possibilities are vast. Enjoy the search.

Mason and Hamlin are every bit as good as any Steinway but a 3rd cheaper. Seriously good pianos and worth trying to import new or used.

Thanks all for your kind advice. We've decided to go with the Petrof, although each instrument had its pros and cons. I did try a range of other makes but liked these the best in my price range.

Petrof grands are nice. Good choice.

I've never knowingly played a Mason and Hamlin. Seem to be rare in this country.
