sussex I'm v worried about the dealer/technician. Is he going to start turning things and adjusting some of those little nobby bits. It could be that DMathew has a very light touch in which case the adjustment will be minimal and not require disembowelling the whole machine and removing it to some t...

John There are far more technical people on this forum than I, but here's a bit of general stuff. All pianos, as far as I am aware, are strung nowadays with plain carbon steel wire. The gauge of the wire increases from about 13 mwg to about 21 mwg as you head towards the bass. Then, to increase the m...

Mdv I hope you realise these are all very subjective opinions. In the end , the decision will be yours. There is no place for regrets afterwards. it is pointless lauding the qualities of one piano against another as they are based on personal perceptions.Beauty is in the earhole of the listener. Som...

i can't remeber. If they have then to touch the backtouch packing is instant death. My best advice is to leave the back well alone, replace the backtouch with EXACTLY the same gauge felt( if it's not all in the bin or sustains some sort of life ,short of moths and meece) and work forward-centre firs...

I fear we are leading this chap into deep water wherein he may drown. We all know the above but- O Enquirer! Advising a beginner, I wouldn't touch the packing, rather get as near as you can with the original. However, if you decide to pack ( or unpack the back rail) make sure you don't push out any ...

Assuming you neither live up a mountain nor several flights of stairs, had you consulted a competent piano removal firm, they would have done the job with two men for far less than the monkey you were quoted. In addition you wouldn't have been left with a jeriatic joanna in need of a total rebuild. ...

My great grand dad Isaac deBock Kennard, a tuner, went from Margate Kent to Ballarat Australia in the 1860s.Family tales have it that he played on the emigrant ship going over and after that in the bars in Ballarat during the gold rush. Odd be cause they were a very religious family. He returned to M...

first find a tuner who is unwise enough to take one on. The wrest pins that protrude both sides of the wrest plank are generally loose and, of course, cannot be knocked in- otherwise they fall out! I've got a genuine eavestaffe minipiano stool if you want one, tho' it's walnut, not the mahogany illu...

me too. I sold a piano (20 years ago) and after a week the customer complained about bad repetition, and , indeed, the little rascals had removed all the tapes for their nest as did your mices.
