Its a bolt on leg, if you look at the pic from underneath you can see the bolts. If you keep the bolts tight you should get a couple of years out of it, then look for a Tozer or John Austin. 3 times the price but will last for ever and be nicer to use.

I love the Yamaha U1 I just don't want to spend money on one that is badly re-conditioned. I suggest you buy a new piano then. The other problem to look out for is you can have a fantastic rebuild but the piano will still be stuck together with animal glue and ive lost count of the number of old pianos ive seen with glue joints in casework coming undone, expensive rebuild or not.

Most of the time if they are going to break it will be during tuning and they tend to break near the tuning pin and shoot away from you towards the tail of the piano.

You have to decide how long you want the stool to last. Much more than 2-3 years then buy a Tozer or John Austin. If only short term then go bolt on leg. They are cheap because they are c**p. Or go to your local auction and buy an old stool and refurb it yourself.

I think that if you trust your own tuner you should take his advice and his only as he can see the piano. The massive ups and downs of temp and humidity will cause problems with the tuning and in the end may kill the piano. Sorry but theres no nice way of putting it.
