Re: Second hand piano
I think the most common buyer for a baby grand at the moment are young families. They like it as a piece of furniture as much as for the kids to learn on. In my experience the least talented the musician, the more suspicious and picky the customer. They obsess over the cabinet quality instead of the...

That's a relief.
But brace yourself for the news that it may not tune up and that the dampers may be beyond use. Play a loud chord, then let go straight away. Does the piano silence itself immediately or ring on?

Re: Abernathy Piano Co.?
DId you pay more than $200 for it? The photo of the inside makes it look like its a straight-strung overdamper which isn't great. However I'm loving that cabinet design. Very nice. You say it needs tuning up. What makes you think it needs tuning? If you play a C Major chord very loudly but let go in...

Cheers Colin. It's very easy to say: Straight strung overdamper. £50 tops Tatty Kemble minx £100 ish Old Bechstein upright 85 notes oblique £200 ish Bechstein v with a crack £500 - £1200 Those are trade or auction valuations in my opinion. I am very willing to put a rough valuation on your piano but only if you can upload a handful of photos showing the inside and outside if your piano. Get nice and close, use the flash and try to stay in focus
It will then be very easy to give a rough valuation
Thanks

I tend to think that's the where the U1 comes in.I think you're forgetting about the people who do have the space for a U3, but not the budget for one
Ladies like the U1 because it doesn't dominate the room quite so much
Men like the U3 because of the extra depth and quality of tone

If offered to the trade you are likely to be CHARGED £60 or so have it taken away.
So brace yourself for bad news if you get a proper valuation

Me and Dad hate using them that's all.
Barrie is right, they are taller with a smaller wheelbase. They do the job but we never complete a move without cursing the trolley if we end up having to use one of those for whatever reason.
Still, each to their own

I agree an 80s U3 would be ideal
But if their budget wouldn't stretch that far then a 1979 U3 will keep the students happy. I often stock 1979 U3 pianos with a 3 million serial number. That could work well on this occasion as the customer would get the lower price but the higher serial number.
