Re: Brand new - what book to self teach/

Violin is an instrument that you can pick up bad habits really quick. I think it is best to get a teacher sooner than later. OK, here's the situation - brand new to the piano, really brand new as in never played a note. The piano, a gift for my daughter who has recently started learning with a teach...

Re: Hammer Butt Springs on a Bechstein IV- advice?

Hello John - I was thinking on the point of A440 etc... When you say pianos are seldom A440, what sort of tolerance are you considering? I do indeed have an electronic tuner, which I generally use for guitar, mandolin etc. I assume most folk would want an instrument concert pitch so that they are i...

Re: William Thomson & Son, Glasgow

I worked for William Thomson in West George St Glasgow in 1974, just after they were taken over by Clydesdale. Bill Thomson taught me to tune there. I eventually completed my training at the Newark piano/violin school in Nottinghamshire. Bill Thomson retired to Cala D'Or Majorca in 1982 where he ha...

I can read easy sheet music but feel I need excercises to improve hand coordination, any suggestions? ...

Re: differencial tone annoying ( 3ds)

I wish you can find a solution to your problem. Hello, A customer of mine, acoustician an accordion player, was called to check a room where someone have a kawai baby grand, that is generating "differential tones" audibly, and all along a series of min 3ds in the 5th 6th octaves. I could n...

Re: Newbie question: which piano to choose?

Lucky of you to be exposed in accordion at a young age. I suggest go for an electronic one to start with. Maybe you can have the Gerhard Heintzman refurbished down the line as your toddler progress. Hello everyone, I'm planning to buy a beginner piano for my toddler to take lessons with, yet I know ...

Re: Advice, playing, buying

Looking for advice. Both verging on retirement and wife wants to get a piano, we are not well off but wont struggle. 40+ years ago wife could play accordion by ear & reading music and did win some competitions but never played for last 40 years, she can still get a tune together albeit with hit...
