August Forster

My main piano I have had for some time now is an August Forster upright. The company is still in existence and there is a potted history on their website http://www.august-foerster.de/ and I have contacted them and been sent some very brief info about my piano in that it was completed in 1903 at Lob...

I'm afraid so. That's at least 5x what I would have expected to pay. It's a pity you didn't take some pictures beforehand as suggested. Take the action out of the piano (undo the brass finger wheels which hold it in place, tilt it forwards and lift it out) Stand it on a table but be careful not to k...

You don't say......... I hope you didn't pay too much for it. I certainly would not do anything on it before getting hold of someone to check it as in that condition, it may have a terminal fault and it would be a waste of time spending much effort or money on it if that were the case. Do you mean the pedal lyre is missing?

Even if it is, it should be easy enough to get one from a scrapped piano and modify it to fit.

The work needs to be properly done and look professional, otherwise it will not add value to the piano.

As it stands it's probably worth very little. I presume you still have the bottom board for under the keyboard?

Due to the make and the decorative casework, it would probably be of interest to an enthusiast as a restoration project.

True, but I didn't want to get into too much detail, and too much hassle to redo this - easier just to touch-in the odd chip. I also believe some manufacturers used white lead pigment in the glue for the keytops. The technique is similar to the attachment of mother of pearl inlays. Yes, some PVA dri...

No! No! N0! Please don't use superglue! It leaves an awful residue and can't easily be cleaned off. You don't get a second chance to adjust or correct any misalignment. In addition to the above, some superglues go yellow with age. If you've gone to all the trouble of an expensive piano, do you reall...
