Please scroll down for our selections of used pianos from just £600.
Buying used pianos from us gives you security, whereas buying privately on various selling sites does not. We give warranties on all our pianos for sale from 1 year, but mostly 5 years for our nearly new stock.
Restoring pianos in Dorset for all over the country. We are a piano restoration business which was established in 1953.
So much can be wrong with used pianos, cracked frame, split soundboards, worn parts, split plank all of which can make a piano useless.
Steinway Pianos
View our reconditioned quality Steinway grand piano sales, restored to the highest standards in our shop. All Steinway pianos are reconditioned with traditional materials, come to our showroom to see for yourself. By appointment, unless the sandwich board is on display.
All piano restorations have frame removed, soundboard stripped and refinished. We do not replace Steinway soundboards, we are not interested in producing Steinwas, only Steinways from the golden age of Steinway manufacturing. We pride ourselves on using traditional materials, especially on the soundboard and casework. The soundboards we use traditional varnishes and not spray modern materials. On the casework to showcase the wonderful hardwood rare veneers we use the old craftsmen techniques of French polish which is extremely time consuming but produces gorgeous warm rich tones.

Tuning Temperaments
How many piano tuning temperaments are there?
There are countless variations, but most fall within three major categories;
1. Meantone, which generally concentrated the dissonance into a few unusable intervals (often called "wolf" intervals), so that the others could be Just. These are often called "restrictive" tunings, since there are certain intervals that are not usable. Good intervals are really good, bad ones are really bad. The Meantone era was approx. 1400-1700
2. Well-Temperament, which gives more consonance to the most often used keys, and more dissonance to the lesser used ones. Though not equal, these tunings are "non-restrictive" because all intervals can be used. The intervals range from Just to barely acceptable. Well-temperament refers to a genre, not a specific tuning. The Well-Tempered era is approx. 1700-1880.
3. Equal Temperament, which spreads the dissonance equally among all intervals.
There is no difference in consonance or dissonance between any keys, thus, there are no good ones or bad ones. Equal temperament represents a complete average. Dates of its acceptance are debated, but there is ample evidence that it was widely available by 1900 and is the predominate tuning on keyboards, today.
