Brodmann pianos have a distinctive tonal character that is very colourful, melodic and clear. The Brodmann 'Vienna' action is very responsive, bringing the full dynamic and expressive range of the Brodmann piano within easy reach. Brodmann pianos are excellent instruments that are very affordable. Highly recommended.
Yamaha pianos are industry standard pianos that offer a balanced sound that is neutral and projects well. Yamaha pianos have become a household name for the piano, which is why they continue to be very popular. We recommend the B3, U1, U3S Yamaha uprights and the GB1K and GC1M Yamaha baby grands, C3M and C6M Yamaha grand pianos. We keep these models in stock as standard.
Venables & Son pianos are something very close to our hearts. Having secured a highly efficient and precise piano manufacturing facility to build a select line of upright and grand pianos to 'our' specification, all our knowledge and expertise in piano components and design, comes to life in the development of our exclusive Venables & Son piano range. Unique design, material selection and build quality - finished by us personally in Ringwood, Hampshire - results in a soft, rounded tone that, until now, has not been available at such affordable prices.

Tuning Temperaments
How many piano tuning temperaments are there?
There are countless variations, but most fall within three major categories;
1. Meantone, which generally concentrated the dissonance into a few unusable intervals (often called "wolf" intervals), so that the others could be Just. These are often called "restrictive" tunings, since there are certain intervals that are not usable. Good intervals are really good, bad ones are really bad. The Meantone era was approx. 1400-1700
2. Well-Temperament, which gives more consonance to the most often used keys, and more dissonance to the lesser used ones. Though not equal, these tunings are "non-restrictive" because all intervals can be used. The intervals range from Just to barely acceptable. Well-temperament refers to a genre, not a specific tuning. The Well-Tempered era is approx. 1700-1880.
3. Equal Temperament, which spreads the dissonance equally among all intervals.
There is no difference in consonance or dissonance between any keys, thus, there are no good ones or bad ones. Equal temperament represents a complete average. Dates of its acceptance are debated, but there is ample evidence that it was widely available by 1900 and is the predominate tuning on keyboards, today.
