Anna Yang comes from Canton, south of China and started playing  the piano at the age of three. She came to the UK in 2000, studied at The Mary Erskine School, Edinburgh for three years, and then at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow. She gained a first class honour in Bachelor of Music degree in performance in 2007, and in 2009 she graduated with Master in Music also in performance.

She was very active in performing, both as soloist and chamber musician. During her studies at the RCS she also worked a lot with singers, and had many opportunities to perform in and out of RCS. Anna’s studies at the RCS were supported by: RCS Trust, Else and Leonard Cross Memorial Trust, MBF Music Education Awards and Yamaha Education UK. She also took part in musical activities outside, including a solo piano recital at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2010, and a piano recital at the Steinway Hall in London in April 2011.

Anna moved to London from Scotland in January 2012 and is now working both as a pianist for ballet and a piano teacher.

Did You Know Piano Facts

What is Piano Tuning
Piano tuning is the art of making minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of a piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune will all the intervals on the piano. The meaning of the term in tune in the context of piano tuning is not simply a particular fixed set of pitches. Fine piano tuning requires an assessment of the interaction among notes, which is different for every piano because of the different lengths of string and the wooden bridges, thus in practice requiring slightly different pitches from any theoretical standard. Pianos are usually tuned to a modified version of the system called equal temperament. In all systems of tuning, every pitch may be derived from its relationship to a chosen fixed pitch, which is usually A440. Concert pitch Many piano manufacturers recommend that pianos be tuned twice a year.
