Piano moving and tuning

Post by George76 »

Hello,
I am based in north london, I have seen a piano on the internet -what should I do regarding piano moving and tuning? Do you have any advice on moving and tuning a piano? Should I get the piano tuned before it is moved? And do you know of anybody within the association in london who could help?

Many thanks,
George

No, you should not have a piano tuned before you move it. Moving the piano puts the piano out of tune; it changes the environment the piano is in.

When a piano is moved, you should leave it for four weeks before you get it, dude.

It always makes me laugh when people say oh, we bought the piano last year. The shop said they would tune it before it got delivered to us. Yeah, right.

Andrew Howerd both moves on tunes Pianos in the London area.

Please tell us more about how you have come across the piano on the internet. Has it been advertised by a respected dealer, is it a private sale , on ebay or other used item market place.

As Barrie has said it is pointless getting it tuned before it is moved. However if the piano is getting on in years and not covered by a guarantee it might be wise to have it inspected by a piano technician before parting with any money.

Dear Barrie and Chris,
Thank you for advice on tuning a piano before getting it moved.

I made contact with AMH Pianos Services London ,they are moving my piano to my home this Friday.
Andy suggested to leave the piano for 2 weeks before he comes and tunes the piano.

Thank you,

George
