Why nobody uses frozen tuning pin for the hammering way there?

Post by maxim_tuner »

When there is a 1mm difference between the size of a tuning pin and the hole in the pinblock, the process of installing the pin can become more difficult. In such cases, applying significant pressure can cause deformations to both the pin and the pinblock. Freezing the tuning pins prior to installation can cause metal shrinkage that reduces the size of the pins to the necessary level. When the appropriate installation sequence is followed, these frozen pins can be installed in the pinblock without damaging or deforming it.

The technical process for installing a pin in a block with a 1mm size difference may involve using specialized equipment that precisely controls the installation process and applies minimal pressure to avoid deformation. Depending on the construction of the pinblock and technical solutions used, thermal treatment may also be applied to expand the hole in the pinblock to the correct size.

In general, using frozen tuning pins when installing them in the pinblock can simplify and improve the installation process, ensuring a precise match between the pin and hole sizes while minimizing the risk of pinblock damage and pin deformation. This can enhance the quality of the sound produced by the instrument.

Regarding screwing the tuning pins into the pinblock, freezing them beforehand can also lead to improved results. During the screwing process, there is a risk of deformation, particularly when the pin and hole sizes do not correspond. Freezing the pins can help prevent this by reducing their size and, as a result, the necessary friction and force required to install them. This can lead to more precise and high-quality installation of the pins in the pinblock.

It's important to note, however, that even with frozen tuning pins, the process of installing them into the pinblock requires skill, experience, and accuracy. As such, only professional equipment and suitable installation methods should be used.
