no.12634 would indicate it was 1927 in c1928 Brasted merged with Boyd and later Brasted was taken over by Barratt and Robinson and according to their numbers the date is 1927 some refrace books tell us to look to B&R for the serial numbers for Brasted And others tell us to look at Eavestaff which would be more logical but listings for Eavestaff only start in 1950 No 135000

However, Bills research listed in Musicians Piano Atlas shows that Boyed was using 44149 around 1927 (going off the frame date )

So I would say your piano is pre 1927

Many thanks for reply.Ihad noted the entries in Musicians PIano Atlas and did the following calculation.
If no.44149 was made inJan 1927 and no. 46826 in Oct
1928, 2677 were made in 22months equals 1500/year. Piano maker mag. for Aug 1913 says Boyd were makig 40/week at Harringay (=2000/yrar .This led me to a date of about 1905 for 12634. Is this reasonable?
Many thanks.

I have to say first that I am not away, and if I was, I wouldn't appreciate the world kowing about it. As far as dates of Boyd pianos is concerned, there were several different factories, with different numbers, and many cannot be reliably dated by numbers. Also, the idea that numbers represent production is a fallacy. On the PianoGen website, press the Numbers, Aliases and Datemarks buttons.
