Re: Advice on piano removal please

I hadn't thought of that! Thank you. The Sussex/Derby leg might have gone away now, but I wouldn't have any problem with a gap between the date of puck-up and delivery. I'm assuming (hoping) that might save money too.

Thanks so much,

Advice on piano removal please

I need to move a grand from Derby to Sussex and another one from East Sussex back to Derby, preferably on the same day. The two Sussex locations are a few miles apart; just one location in Derby. I’d be ever so grateful of advice as to the most cost-effective way of doing this and (possibly) recomme...

Re: High level buying advice

If it helps, I know lots of qualified musicians who own and swear by the better Japanese pianos. A well set up U3 (or C3) will give the Germans a run for their money. Our local cathedral organist owns a C3 as do I.

Tiggy, If Mark's offer of a £300 is still on the table, you could probably do a lot worse. I often travel between Derby (home) and Manchester and would be happy to transport for you for a contribution to my fuel (I've got a big people mover). Reconditioned U3. Good value?

I was up in London at Chappells the other day to buy sheet music. Up stairs they have lots of (very nicely set up and tuned) Yamahas...including a '70s U3 which has been fully restored by Yamaha in Japan. The piano looks like new and plays and sounds really nice(ly). Considering the obvious quality ...

Re: Ask piano technician – Do you prefer Kawai K3 or Yamaha

I find few customers concerned with resale value. As pianos last so long,if a family keeps a piano through the shelf life of the teenagers then they will probably get a good price anyway after 20 years, especially if the crazy economy gets back in order. After my Dad died in the 1960s I often had a...

Always better to buy a piano you have played and liked than a "brand new" "boxed" one. They're all different and purchasing a piano is not like buying a hifi imo.

Good advice, especially regarding position of the music desk. If you're not used to playing grands this can be a bit off-putting. There's no substitute for having a bit of time on the instrument before you play. Hopefully the S&S will be so nice that the experience will be entirely positive. I r...

It must be old. I learned to play on a nice Sir Herbert Marshall, Sons and Rose which was I guess 1920s. The piano under discussion seems to be pre knighthood or sons (and Rose).

TBH the chances of it being any good at all are very slim.

Another vote for Jeff Shackell near Oxford. I have bought Yamaha and Steinway grands from Jeff. If there's anyone better at setting up a piano, I have yet to meet them.
