Thanks to everyone who has replied.
I will arrange for my tuner tech to have a look and once I know what the problem is take this back to the dealer / Kawai if appropriate.
Regards

Re: Kawai K2 heavy action
Hi Colin
The damper doesn't begin to lift until the hammer has travelled about half way to the string as you have described.

Re: Kawai K2 heavy action
Hi
Once the key is depressed I have removed coins as suggested. When I get to 8 coins (28.5g) the key rises.
Thanks

Re: Kawai K2 heavy action
Hi again Thanks very much for the prompt advice. The piano is kept in the dining room which is a downstairs room at the back of the house. It is not near a radiator. The room is north facing and doesn't get any sun but I wouldn't describe it as damp. I have tried the weight test suggested using 1 pe...

Kawai K2 heavy action
Hi everyone I would like some advice regarding the touch weight of my piano. The piano was bought new from a local shop exactly a year ago and is a Kawai K2. It was bought for my two daughters age 9 and 11 who are at grade 1 and 2 standard. We all tried the piano (myself included although I am also ...

Re: Laminated soundboards
Have now found an answer to my own question coutesy of Larry Fine (reproduced from Acoustic & Digital Piano Buyer - Spring 2011) "Over the past couple of decades better laminated soundboards have been developed, and the pianos into which they've been installed are more advanced, too. The pr...

Re: Moutrie Pianos
Sorry not to make myself clear.
I was referring to new pianos as sold by a large retailer in Manchester. I asked to question as the marketing blurb suggests they were originally an English company which has been around for over 100 years manufacturing in china for English ex-pats.

Laminated soundboards
I have noted that budget new pianos often are supplied with laminated soundboards which appear to be the poor relations of the solid spruce variety in terms of sound quality. Some pianos however (eg Venables Studio 120) are described as having solid spruce soundboards with a fine grain veneer. Is th...

Re: Used piano suitable for beginner
Many thanks for all the really good advice offered from forum members. I have decided not to pursue the purchase of this particular piano in the end for a number of reasons but primarily because: 1) I think I need to try a range of pianos from good to bad to so that I can start to get a feeling of w...

Used piano suitable for beginner
Hi all I have two daughters aged 10 and 7 who are currently having lessons. The eldest has just done her ABRSM grade 1 and the younger one her prep test. Both are currently practising on an unweighted keyboard and I am looking to buy an acoustic piano ASAP. I should add that I am also teaching mysel...
