Re: Yamaha YUS1 - Practice/Mute Pedal

It feels thinner in the treble and thicker in the bass yeah. The bar doesn't appear to be dropping so low as to affect the action in anyway. The felt appears to brand new and i've rarely used it before. Do you think it will improve over time?

Yamaha YUS1 - Practice/Mute Pedal

Hi all, I have a Yamaha YUS1 upright piano which I have owned for approximately 2 years. Currently I live in a house with no neighbours in the evening but soon I will be moving house to either an apartment block or a semi detached house and will no doubt need to use the practice pedal more often. Be...

Re: Secondhand Yamaha U3 versus New

Having recently purchased a second hand Yamaha my advice would be to get out there and start playing them. In my opinion you can tell a bad piano within the first minute of playing. I also recommend playing a new one for comparison too! But if you want to be extra sure then buy from a reputable deal...

Re: Piano Re-conditioning.

Just purchased the YUS1 (1981) from Forsyths in Manchester. Arrives in 1 Week! It is just fantastic!

Managed to negotiate a great deal in the end.

Yamaha YUS1 or UX-1?

Can anyone tell me what the difference between a YUS1 and a UX-1 is? I'm looking at purchasing both models but am struggling to find the difference visually! As far as I understand it the upgrades from a standard U1 are: - Cross braced back - Upgraded strings and hammers equivalent to a SU series (P...

Re: Piano Re-conditioning.

Thanks for all your advice. I think I am going to go with the YUS1 at the higher cost. It's the only one I have tried that sounded and felt 'right'. I found small issues with all of the others i played (uneven tone, heavy/sluggish action, badly grooved hammers, yellowing of the keys, bad casework......

Re: Piano Re-conditioning.

Sadly buying new isn't really an option due to the cost involved.

Couldn't I get a piano tuner/technican to come and have a look at it for me? Anyone recommend someone reputable in Manchester?

Re: Piano Re-conditioning.

I really don't trust anyone with a second hand Yamaha upright right now. :( I live in Sheffield, I have £3k to £4k to spend on a piano. Can anyone recommend anyone to buy from in the area? There are pianos in a couple of high street retailers I am looking at but it's difficult to trust anyone to sel...

Re: Piano Re-conditioning.

I have to say that did ring alarm bells. In the workshop there were several pianos stripped down and masked up as if they were to be "re-sprayed". Not knowing anything about the re-finishing of casework I couldn't really say if it was being done properly. Are the panels of a piano actually...

Piano Re-conditioning.

I am planning to buy a Grey Yamaha U1 in the next few weeks and have been visiting various piano retailers in the north of england for the last month or so looking for a good piano. Since this is my first Acoustic piano purchase I have been doing as much research as possible to avoid any costly mist...

Re: Looking to improve technique and skills.

Thanks for your advice. Grade 1 books are in the post. The whole lot was less than £10 from amazon and i'm sure I will at least learn something. At the moment I am learning various classic pieces I have in a Grade 2 book but I mostly spend my time with Tim Minchin stuff. I love his playing and comed...

Looking to improve technique and skills.

Hi all, I am a 25 year old piano player who has owned a digital piano (Casio PX-300) for exactly 1 year today after wanting a piano for as long as I could remember but without ever making the leap. Over the course of that year I have self taught myself serveral pieces to an average level, learnt mos...
