Nope, just down the road. But the bride's family are Welsh, so it's Bread of Heaven and Ar Lan Y Mor. Bride's ma extremely startled when I knew what that meant; I hope she'll be too busy on the day to test me on my mutilations.

Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau's nice and easy. I had that in my Sightreading Folk a couple of wicks ago. Had 'Lincolnshire Poacher' last night, from the occidental side of Albion to the oriental one.

Even more odd is when we have a song we cannot bluddey stand on our minds. Don't ask me why I've got 'Love Is In The Air' by John Paul Young tonight, didn't hear it in work or anything (wouldn't play pap music when I'm at the front anyway)

Agadoo always reminds me of The Chicken Song by Spitting Image (its parody). One, two, three: Hold a chicken in the air, stick a deckchair up your nose.................and though you hate this song, you'll be humming it for weeks!

I HAD the Funky Gibbon in the 70s. Was only one of two red white and grey 'Bradleys Records' I had (the other being I Was Porn With A Smile On My Face by Stephanie de Sykes)

I'd LOVE to buy a turntable. With a radiogram attached to it to play some of the vinyl gems we get in our shop on it. Creaky lid, wobbly legs, and a dial that lights up with all the names and placings of the principal European broadcasting stations of the time like Luxembourg at 208 metres and BBC Light at 1500 metres. And with a 4 speed turntable including 16 2/3 rpm, although I've never ever come across a disc that plays at that slow speed. I gather some talking books used the 16 speed.

Yes, I saw a cracker in the Sue Ryder shop in Nottingham once. However the only problem is management. She says there isn't any room. I say make room. If there is room for a 40 inch television set and a box that her cats defecate into, there is room for both an acoustic piano and a radiogram. I think a musiccentre may be more of a compromise as far as she's concerned (we live in a post war slum clearance terrace).

When these houses were built, television sets were tiny, but radios were getting bigger and record players were becoming built into items of furniture so many homes of the time had room for a radiogram. I remember our old Sobell mono two waveband four speeder, Family Favourites was the ONLY thing we'd listen to on there. By the time Charlie Chester was half an hour into his Sunday Soapbox the thing got switched over to 247 metres for the Top Twenty (this was before everyone locally had heard of BRMB).

I've looked on Ebay but no joy....

I saw a corker in the Sue Ryder shop in Nottingham a few months back, and it was turned on and playing a record at the time!! (there was a piano in there when we went up there around the time I started with Mabel last Feb/March)

Which reminds me, in the British Heart Foundation shop in Northfield this morning there was a piano which they've decided to list on Ebay. So it must be a goodie.

Now I shall put the blame squarely on Maxine for making todays earworm 'If Only I Could' by Sidney Youngblood. I'll miss her next week, and the week after that and the week after that, she's in Barbados with the local Bajan Society.

Used to hear it a lot on Radio Luxembourg in the 80s, there was this deep voiced German guy on in the afternoons. Of course in the winter, Radio Luxembourg's AM signal on 1440kHz (or two-o-eight) reached the UK before English language pop shows started around 7.

The song I always thought was by Father Abraham and the Smurfs, but apparently it's by some other German kiddies entertainer type celebrity.

i never did 'get' Queen and Freddie Murphy. I did used to have a crush on Lynsey de Paul though. Yes she cannot sing, she mimed on Top of the Pops including the piano playing, and she is a supporter of the Conservative Party. But even now it still makes me want to put a picture of this old boyhood crush on me wall! And she STILL looks like a girl in her 30s even now.

You could probably play it better than Ms. de Paul could. She used to make appearances on That's Life doing musical items. She did one once, a self-penned track that went something like 'be good to the ghosts, be good to the goolies' where she 'frightened' a ghost away from her grand piano. I'd just started puberty around that time.

Bill Buckley used to be great on That's Life, he used to compose and play obscure little life-inspired ditties on Breakfast Time (in the days of Frank Bough and Selina Scott) and there used to be a Brummie bloke called Grant Baynham who did similar on That's Life.

He's on Radio Devon. Though I bet Doc Cox (otherwise known as Ivor Biggun) has faded into obscurity though. It was always his job to deliver pictures of rude signposts, fruit that looks like genitalia and other things the British and only the British find amusing, immediately after Esther had informed us about a three year old kid in Kettering dying of leukaemia or the black death and how, through pathos, we should all feel so sorry for the poor little mite.

and see, we're now back to the 'Top Of The Form' theme. My wife thinks there are rude lyrics to that tune (relating to female genitalia) and the both of us could not keep a straight face when we were walking around the gentlemens' toiletries section in Fortnums and it came on as a piece of muzak!

There was a song called Noo Yawk by some yank woman in the last few years. Somebody did a fine parody of it called Newport with scenes from the Welsh town all through the video. The yank killjoys made them remove it though.
