Applications for pianists

Post by ChristineL »

Hi everyone, I'm Christine.
I've a question concerning iPad apps for beginner pianists. I understand Tonara is very good for starters because it flips the page and listens to your playing. Any suggestions?

Hello Christine and welcome.

I don't know anything about "i" stuff, but my guess is all it could do is pick up on consistent tempo and correct notes, it's not going to help you with technique. Can you afford lessons? There's no substitute for a good teacher.

I can't afford lessons any more, but I was lucky enough to have about 20 lessons a couple of years ago and they really helped put me on a good footing.

Do you play an acoustic or electronic? Good luck with it anyway :piano;

Thank you Nutroast!
It does more than that - it actually turns the page of the sheet music at the right time and records your playing. So you're right - as far as technique goes, I'm on my own (I play an acoustic), but the application frees you from constantly looking up your place in the chart... I find it cool and you should check it out if you come across an "i" - it's free :wink:

ah, but the thingy that can do the "i" isn't!

It sounds fascinating though. I love any musical bits and bobs. Anything that gets you enthused about playing can't be a bad thing. Good luck with it all. What are you practicing at the moment? I'm doing a Pauline Hall's Piano Time Classics, the arrangements are within my capabilities so I don't get put off. They're also written so as to not need any pages turned :wink:
