Help choosing between these Yamaha Upright

Post by CarlosN »

Hi,

I would apreciate good advise to help me choose between:
1-Yamaha U3 Silent 1994
2-Yamaha UX 1980
3-Yamaha YUS 1982

Please consider:
-they are all in very good condition
-the price is the same
-I live in an apartment
-the piano is for my son, who is learning in the second grade
-i´m trying to buy a piano for a life time, if possible

Please give your opinion, I thank you all for that. :!:

Best regards
Carlos

All reputable names.... the U3 would be my choice, simply because it is much younger, and from experience, nice to tune & play.

However, any piano name, year and model number doesn't necessarily guarantee a good choice 'on paper', with out actually see or hearing it... I would suggest that you paid a piano tuner to check it over for you. If you are thinking of spending over £2k.... peace of mind. The silent unit may also be useful for adjoining apartments!

Mark is one of our resident experts on Yamahas.... he will probably be able to advise you better and give more details.

Also find out if any of the pianos have been refurbished?

Hope that helps

Surely you answer helps.
The seller is the importer and tuner of these pianos, although the U3 was another costumer´s piano that upgraded to a Grand, and that had bought the piano to him in the first place. The UX and the YUS where imported from Japan. I can´t tell what kind of work was done, but they look and sound just fine (i´m not the best judge for coments on the sound, as I only love listening to music, don´t play any musical instrument).
This seller as very good reputation as a piano tuner and restauration and guarantees recovery (not only in another piano sale), no other seller does this.
I was considering buying a Kawai much younger for the same price (K25EA 2004) but the seller doesn´t offer the same guarantees, they might buy it back in the purchase of another piano but don´t tell what would the devaluation would be, unlike the first (the Yamaha seller will accept it back even if I don´t buy another piano).
Thanks a lot.
Still waiting for other´s opinion... anyone?

My thoughts exactly.
Also it sounds like it has a known history which is always nice.
Take a technician to have it tuned and then BUY IT! :)

As you live in an Apartment the Yamaha U3 Silent 1994 would be the better buy for you and your neighbours - However, what guarantees is he giving on the silent system and on the piano. Depending were in the world you live replacement parts for the Silent system could be hard to get
