Are you in the piano trade/ are you a technician?

Renner will probably only deal with trade if you are not a piano technician, so you will need to contact a piano technician or the piano company who made your piano direct - thats if they are still around.

You have not provided any information about your grand piano (make, model, approx year), and I doubt if Renner will provide a complete action for any piano. However, hammer heads, damper felt etc is readily available from several piano parts retailers - but you must be in the trade.

For example, Steinway have full genuine spare parts/ order sheet and full price list for the majority of their pianos, but the prices vary greatly on complete actions (untoned) depending on the model letter.

Setting up/ installing/ regulating/ toning a new grand action is a highly specialised job, and should only be carried out by an experienced technician.

I have no trouble getting through to Renner if needed!! - leave a message...

We cannot discuss trade prices here on this forum, and if you are not in the trade, you are advised to contact a piano tuner/technician who is willing to take on the work - but it will be quite expensive.

Hope that helps for now....

You have the wrong ideal about fitting a new action into your Bluthner they don't come off the self and slide in there are very many complex measurements and calculations need to fit a new action. All the new components need to be fitted Then the action need to be balanced most tuners will walk from this kind of work

Wile Renner provide excellent backup to UK tuners your best route is use a RRT to do it for you. or send the piano to Bluthners or Barry Caradine.

There is no cheep way of doing this

The guys are quite correct, Renner UK is a strictly trade only supply house. We have a list of Renner trained technicians around the country who have been trained at the Renner factory in the art of fitting a new action. If you let me know where you are and I will send you their details direct.
Fitting a new action is a highly skilled operation and takes about a week to complete.
Also the type of Bluthner action you wish to replace will also effect the price. If it is a patent one you will need to add on the price of a new keyboard as well.

Please understand although I am not a piano technician I am not an idiot either. I appreciate that actions can't just be slipped into place without the appropriate work etc - I am NOT an advocate of DIY piano repair.

I will contact a piano technician.

Hi again Tenor,
When people don't supply full details of their situation it's best to assume that the person enquiring is indeed an idiot. That way, we can cover all bases AND this topic will remain very helpful for people who come on here in the future who might possibly believe that you can just slip in a new piano action and be ready to go in 10 minutes.

Point taken!!! But a little unfair Mark to imply that I am an idiot

Tenor1,

Have you tried the Bluthner with the Flemming action and decided you would need to replace it? It would be interesting to know how you think it compares with other instruments (I presume you are a demanding pianist if you are looking for a concert grand?).

A reasonable pianist - a professional singer by trade but I work with some very demanding pianists and i'm fortunate to have a room big enough to cope with a concert grand. Having deliberated I have decided against that particular piano.
