Wurlitzer Baby Grand Electric Piano Model 270

Post by P&HMackie »

Hi all,
I am a newbee to the world of piano's and doing this on behalf of my aunt. She has a pristine condition Wurlitzer Baby Grand Electric Piano Model 270 which I believe are 'hard to find' these days. We have found a dealer in London who just sold one and have attached a link to this message that does not only hold pictures but has a brilliant You Tube video clip of the piano being played (it sounds incredible even to a non pianist like myself!). The dealer suggested looking at specialist forums (such as this) and local music shops. We live in Central Scotland, mid point between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The specifications of the piano are:

Height 34-3/16 inches
Width 41 inches
Depth 37-9/16 inches
Weight 118 Pounds
Keyboard Range 64 notes A-13 thru C-76
Top – Butterfly design hinged at centre, with top props
Sound System – Two 8 inch full range speakers enclosed in specially designed acoustic chambers
Amplifier – 10 Watt RMS at 8 Ohm impedance
3 Removable Legs

I wonder if anyone can offer advice on how we are best to go about selling this beautiful piece of kit? My aunt is 82 and cannot do this herself but as we are not musician's, my wife and I are not familiar with the best process. We are not looking to make a fortune, merely getting a reasonable price for what is a fabulous instrument and a piece of family history. The piano was bought by my late father in law and after his death was sold to our aunt, so we can genuinely say we know the full history and that it has been lovingly looked after since new.

We would be grateful for any advice we can get and again reitterate, this is a genuine request and not a gimmick from a dealer.

Kind regards

Peter

I would try ebay. You'll be amazed at how many people with interest in niche areas trawl ebay looking for items. Presumably you know roughly how much it should go for so you can set a reasonable starting price.

Hi Robert,
Thank you for replying. We had thought E-Bay would be an option but weren't sure if there were better routes or not. Knowing how much it should go for is an issue - we simply don't! The London dealer we were in touch with had just sold one and told us the sale price but we are not sure what we should ask for in an open market. We will take the advice on this page and not ask for a valuation but try to get a piano tuner or similiar to provide one. As I said previously, this is for our Aunt and would be keen that she didn't loose out too much from the piano's true value.

Thanks again for your advice.

Kind regards

Peter

I would list it for £1 with no reserve and let it go to the highest bidder.
You will probably be pleasantly surprised. Make sure you list lots of photos and full details.
