Help with fingering

Post by wilton »

Help needed with fingering.
If I have before me a piece without fingering how do I decide which fingers to start with etc.
The only advice I have received so far is 1. just do it if it works for you its ok. 2. Learn and practice scales and arpeggios.
I dont find either very helpful (though I do appreciate the importance of s & a)
are there any rules or any good books or websites etc.

There's no substitute for a teacher - and I'm not biased, because I'm not one! You learn about fingering through experience, really, and if you haven't much experience, that's where the teacher comes in. Find one who likes to teach adults, and don't forget that you don't have to have a lesson every week. Good luck!
