A better music desk (one with grippers) for Yamaha U3

Post by MarkGoodwinPianos »

It's a little bit daft that the music desk of some modern pianos, including the U3, doesn't have those little sticky up things to grip the music book. Yes they are a bit ugly and old-fashioned but they are very useful too. It's as if the manufacturer has put aesthetics over practicality.

So does anyone know of a replacement music desk I could supply to customers who specifically ask for one with music grippers? Or would you be tempted to do a DIY job?

Thanks in advance for any tips
:)

Fletcher-Newman do aftermarket book holders. Go to their parts catalog at http://www.fletcher-newman.co.uk/ and look under Sundries.

Thanks. I've found this

That's the only thing they had.
The front edge of a U3 music desk is quite narrow so it may not be possible to fit. In which case a full new music desk might be needed.

If you are very careful and have the proper drill bit not a difficult DIY job would try and use older music desk clips where the thread is thinner, drill hole and pack with matchsticks and white glue then screw in desk clips leave overnight should do the trick.Another gadget which have not seen around for a while is a liittle clamp which you attach to desk tighten and has clips attached to hold sheet music.

If youve got a workshop with a pillar drill and can make up a little jig to hold the desk at the correct angle its a piece of cake, you could drill them all day long with no mistakes.

Hi Barrie
I just order one of those music desks, thanks for the link.
The product page said delivery £10 but the checkout service has charged me £11
I've chosen to pay by BACS but I haven't received details of how to pay that way.

Shall I use the same bank details that I pay for the forum advert?
Many thanks
I'll let you know how I get on with this new music desk

Thanks
Mark :)

the Yamaha desks are too thin to fit bookholders( that's the word chaps) safely however careful you are. Full stop.
Our mission in life is to tune customers--not pianos.

Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it

Hi Barrie
It turns out that the postman left the parcel around the side of my house without leaving a note to say what he'd done. So everything is fine, package received. I'll report back to let you know how it fits/looks.

Many thanks
Mark
