KeyBushing Felt Help required

Post by mistral600 »

I have a Bechstein Model 9 Upright 1928.

The front key pin width is .138in and the slot is .163in wide.

Because I could not get access to Thin .047 bushing felt - the UK stockist didn't have any and his US supplier was also out of stock - I decided to order Medium, .054in, and abraided the to-be-glued side. This was almost satisfactory in that I have occasionally had to revisit some keys to free them up a bit.

I have since realised that the so-called Thin felt of .047in would not, without being thinned down, be suitable to ensure free key movement.

Fortunately, from this forum I got the company name Hecksher. I have emailed them to see if they would qoute for small quantity of .035 and .043 Key Bushing Felt.

With the pin and slot dimensions I have given, I would be interested to hear form anyone in support my conclusions and whether I should go for .035 or .043 thickness.

Tankyou
