Advice needed: C.Bechstein restoration project

Post by Surrey_Pianist »

Hi all,

I have an old C.Bechstein Grand Piano Serial Number 51700 circa 1900 needing restoration and have been quoted £5000 for a full restoration project.

Is it worth the trouble and how much will this piano be worth once restored to its former glory?

Have I been quoted a fair price for the restoration project?

Will £5000 get me a decent replacement instrument for my old C.Bechstein?

Thank you for your expert advice in advance.

Not seen the piano but that price seems low to me more like £15,000 for a full rebuild.

As to what the piano is worth when done! that the wrong approach to restoring. However, if it is done well, it will be cheaper than buying a new one.
