Challen VS Louis Renner Stuttggart

Post by JiaJia29 »

Hi,

Should I be getting a 15 year-old Challen (Made in Malaysia since 1996?) or a much older Louis Renner Stuttggart that's probably been re-furbished (but not sure to what extend)?

Any opinion?

My opinion is to never rely on just a photo and name when choosing a piano; the Challen is likely to be a Chinese export, and will sound nothing like an original Challen. Best to play both pianos and compare, or get a piano technician to check out the condition/ performance of each instrument. If you buy a car, you would probably test drive it/ check it over face to face.... so same with pianos. Both names sound OK, but who knows who has previously owned the piano and looked after them? .... so the name is not important at this stage.

could be Renner of Herrburger Brooks; can't say without looking. Action makers may be stamped on the hammer rest rail (front), or on the action rail at the back.

Hi everyone!

I have settled on the 15-year old Challen.

But would like to share that it was assembled in Malaysia, not uk.

Apparently licensed to be manufactured in Malaysia
