Dehumidifier

Post by Openwood »

Hello. I’ve been advised to buy a dehumidifier as the strings on my 1980 Bechstein grand are beginning to rust. Part of the problem is that the piano is at one end of the room and the kitchen area is about 15ft away, so lots of steam etc. There’s no other place to put the piano, sadly.

Is there a particular make you would recommend?

Thank you.

If you have not done so already, I 'd suggest you do a Google search for "piano dehumidifier" etc. That will give you will be plenty of information to wade through before you get an informed response.

Heresy I know, but could you cut down on the steam in the kitchen or install an extractor.

Do you have one of those hygrometers that Amazon sell for a tenner?

I use an Ebac dehumidifier have one in my workshop been running 24/7 for the last 5 years had one before that lasted for 15 years

Would strongly recommend not putting it too close to the piano put it closer to the kitchen. Having it too close to the piano code and will dry out the soundboard first.
