Hello Benfleet! I moved from there in 1988, still go occasionally, I don't remember tuning your old Hopkinson though. The number is probably in about the right range for 1864, does it mention any exhibition medals on the transfer, or addresses? Press www and see my oage on Appraisal, victorian pianos are very difficult to place in the UK, I wish I had space to rescue them! Any chance of emailing photos?

The early numbers published by Michel, (starting from 15,500 in 1840) don't seem to bear any relationship to the instruments I've seen, and they often conflict with the dates of exhibition medals shown on the pianos, so it is wise to cross- check by the dates of any medals illustrated on the transfer:

1835 #1
Circa 1844 #600
1851 Medal
1855 Medal
1862 Medal

Type pianobition in the address bar.
