Henry Hicks' firm was established in 1870, became Hicks and Son around 1899, and became Hicks & Son Ltd. around 1905. How good? That's a difficult question to answer, and the present condition is more important, but I'd say they were average commercial pianos. I can supply a booklet giving some old letterheads, warranties, etc..

The number suggests about 1931. I have no experience of Hansen pianos.

New Piano

Post by l4taylor »

Hi again...

that piano I told you I was getting today -

It is a Hansons 23605 - (thats the number I took off the side of the first white key) Does this mean anything to you. If you have an email addy, I would love to send a pic. Its not a full size upright - it isn't as high as my other piano. Def needs tuning since its just climbed several flights of stairs! sounds terrible....tuner coming soon!

Well let me know if you know what it is - prob worth 50p to a wood scrap dealer, ha ha

Cheers,

Lee

Hi there,

Have just spent the last 4 hours cleaning the piano up. Took it apart - took all the keyd off, washed everything - got rid of what looks like 20 years of dust - it looks spanking clean now. The casing needs some work, but other that that, its a fine piano. It is def more of a modern upright. Probaby 1970-1980

No reliable dates are available for most Hicks serial numbers, so although I think it is around 1962, I can't prove it. Have a look at
