Wegner upright piano

Post by smaj112000 »

If anyone has knowledge of the Kreiter Manufacturing Co.,Inc., I would like to hear it.They were established in 1896 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,U.S.A. At some point (circa 1924?) they manufactured Wegner pianos and Waldemar player pianos. You can contact me via email; smj112000@yahoo.com
Thankyou.

I don't know much about dating pianos, but I inherited a Wegner player piano when I bought a house recently. It has a date stamped inside of 1885 which may correspond to the founding of the Kreiter parent company that manufactured these pianos, as I believe the particular piano and Wegner branding came after the 1920's. I'm curious if anyone knows more about these Wegner player pianos, or if I can obtain more information using the serial number.

You don't give the number. There were several piano and music firms named Wegner in the twenties, in Germany and Austria, but the American ones were (as you say) made by Kreiter, Milwaukee. They were established in 1896, so I don't know what 1885 is about, perhaps it is just a number. It's unlikely you have an 1885 built-in player.

There are serial number dates published for Kreiter, but we don't see these pianos this side of the ocean, so I can't tell you if the dates are reliable. Many are not, as you can read at
