James Farmer piano history

Post by SimonShepherd »

Hi there from New Zealand,
My father originally from Oxford shipped out his family piano, a James Farmer upright, sold by C Taphouse & Son , Oxford. There are a few numbers on it - are they any use in determining how old it is? One says 12807, the other 3156 / 5882. Unfortunately my father passed without telling me the pianos history. Any help would be great.

I remember the Taphouses' shop in Magdalen Street Oxford but have no information about James Farmer pianos. My book does contain reference to S.Farmer & Co pianos and gives a serial number of 15937 dated 1921.
