Moore & Moore

Post by Moore n Moore »

Hey

Unfortunately my Moore & Moore didnt make it past the local tuner who said there wasn't much he could do without spending a whole lot of money.

My kids will learn piano on a keyboard inside this refurbed M&M, I'd love to get help getting its age. I was told it arrived in New Zealand from UK in the 50s, that's all I know!

Going by the pianohistory page it's looking more 1900s than 1960s but its signed 65? I dunno, I've got a few clues so hopefully someone can help! Cheers

They were established in 1839, going off its legs, I would say around 1900 in Bills notes at the back of the piano musicians Atlas he has serial number 2588 = c1927

A few people convert them into cocktail cabinets or writing desks, and some into digital pianos.

I believe I can answer my own question! 1935

This is going off the serial number of 50711 via https://www.thepianogallery.co.uk/kembl ... c/27249788

It's looking like an early Kemble produced piano from their North London factory, under the name of Moore & Moore. The pencil marks on the bottom key actually now look more like 2x signatures, the bottom being HGS. There is possibly a 20 in there and the 19 and 19 stamped on the keys could be something but the 1935 rough age looks a more probable date to me.

This piano has many similar features to the Squire piano a few further down the history forum page, Squire was also acquired by Kemble

Very sorry, completely missed a different, very prominent number being 33331. So this gives me a date of approx 1902/3 as per wholesaler Bansall numbers on attachment so looks like your prediction is spot on. My prediction of 1935 is unlikely as Kemble post 1930 should also include a K.

Brilliant site, quite fascinating looking into all the numbers and companies. If it was easy it wouldn't be fun!
