John Shenstone & Son Piano

Post by phillip13 »

thank you for the opportunity to receive information.
my name is Phil and I live in Adelaide South Australia

we have been given an upright piano from friends, and we would love to hear what year of manufacture she was made.

it is a John Shenstone & son with an Herburger,Brooks ltd Piano action

it has a serial number stamped into the left side top of the wooden frame.
2 2177. (it has a gap between the # 2)

it was brought out to Australia in 1964

thank you for any help you can give
is there any books I can buy as a parts list or manual????

Re: date of manufacture for John Shenstone & son Piano

The Herrburger Brooks action indicates that it was made after 1919, but no dates of Shenstone serial numbers are available, and my impression is that they were a firm of key makers, who sold pianos bought in from an anonymous wholesaler, and put their name onto them. Some were made by Kemble, and 22177 would suggest that it was made around 1925.
When I visited the firm in the seventies, they were only selling televisions, and had no archives or historical information.

I don't know what you mean about parts lists.
