Mystery Yamaha upright

Post by cjba »

Hello - we've had in the family since new a Yamaha upright. On the face of it it's a fairly normal mid-1980s instrument, but recently I thought I'd see what model it is, and drew a blank. Inside it says LUK-101, serial 1094. I can't find any online reference to this, and Yamaha here and in Germany can't suggest anything either.

Does anyone know where this might have been made, and what it is? Is it even Yamaha?

I've attached some photos.

Many thanks detectives!

Looks to be a Kemble Cambridge equivalent, possibly made in Milton Keynes. Is it 110cm high ?

You've cracked it - many thanks!

More googling with that info has told me it was a model made between 1985 and 1987 by Kemble at Milton Keynes, under licence from Yamaha, badged as Yamaha and only sold in the UK.
