Millard Piano, London

Post by Daniree »

Hi all,

I have a Millard, London piano and I'm trying to understand it's history. The piano also has Clark's Ltd, Guildford, Woking and Basingstoke on it an a couple of serial numbers: 6788 by the strings, and 2963 which is on the wooden panel casing the piano.

Is anyone able to help me to understand a little more about the piano please?

Thanks!

Hi! My Names page
http://www.pianohistory.info/names.html
explains that many piano names are meaningless, and it was quite common to write "London" on them even when they were not real makers, and not in London. Millard London pianos were sold by various dealers around the country, but I have so far been unable to trace a real maker by that name. I will have a look through my files, THE WORLD'S LARGEST DIRECTORY OF PAST UK PIANO FIRMS and see what may have turned up recently. It would help if you could post photos here to show what the whole piano looks like on the outside, unobscured by dogs, stools, vases etc.. Alternatively, you can email them to me to post.

I'm sorry your post has been overlooked, but it has nothing to do with the heading, and you would stand more chance of useful responses if you post it again as a new topic. The comments above about piano names probably apply to Chepstow as well, but I will check to see if I can find anything about that name or Wiggs, the retailer.
