Age of Hulbert & Jones Piano

Post by Schmoi »

I hope You can help me. We got a upright piano and want to know about it a bit more. It's from:
HULBERT & JONES London
Serial number: 23856
Important for us would be the age of the piano.

Thank You, if You find something.

Re: Age of Hulbert & Jones Piano, Details to the company

Post by Bill Kibby »

James Hulbert seems to have been established around 1860, and later became Hulbert & Sons.

Hulbert & Jones claimed to have been established in 1883, but not necessarily under the partnership name. and it may seem that they followed on from J.Hulbert, and then Hulbert & Sons around 1896, but the two firms co-existed around 1905.

Jones became a partner around 1897, and the firm survived at least until the fifties.

No dates of their serial numbers are published but I mention a Hulbert on my Names page which could have been made as early as 1877.

That piano is from a post on this forum. We could probably tell you more if you could post photos here to show what your WHOLE piano looks like, or email them to me to post. It is more likely that you will find useful general information at

I thought I'd check Google Images, but all I found was about twenty of my own pictures, nothing to do with Hulbert.
