Henry George Thomas
I am looking for information about Henry George Thomas. He was a blind pianoforte tuner in Bristol. I have addresses for him in Bristol, from 1881-1911. I want to know where he would have trained and anything else that I could find out about him. Thank you.

It is very difficult to trace tuners in this way, unless they are listed in directories, or in business under their own name. He certainly didn't appear among the tuners listed in the Bristol directories 1870-1878.
1886 - not listed.
1899 Kelly's Directory of the Cabinet & Furnishing Trades; Pianoforte Makers & Warehouses include Henry George Thomas, 63, Whiteladies Road. He did not appear in the same directory for 1911. You may be interested in the general information at

Thank you Bill, I appreciate the fact that you were able to do some research for me. I'm disappointed that he doesn't appear on any of the directories you've looked at.
I know he worked from home from 2 addresses in Bristol. One was Meridian Place and the other was the Upper Arcade. I think he must have done well as he had servants. I was thinking of looking for him in newspaper adverts. Would that have been something he would have done ?
Could you point me in the direction of finding out about his training? He was blind from childhood as he had Scarlett Fever. Would he have trained in Bristol?

The RNCB at Hereford would have been the nearest place for Bristol, mentioned on the page for which I gave a link.

I think if there were any newspaper ads on the net, I would already know about them because of the research I did in Bristol, but you might get lucky if you find archives in Bristol. The Bristol Times doesn't seem to know him. Then again, Colindale has a very good newspaper archive, and there is another at Leicester.
