Welmar in NZ and reliable shipping company?

Post by Mittens »

Hi
I have a lovely Welmar in NZ Welmar 74513 and it must be at least 40 years old.

Do you know how old it is please?
Was made in UK and bought in NZ music shop.

Also, I would like to ship it back to UK here.
Any recommendation as to economical an reliable shipping company please?

Many thanks

I am sorry I can't help with shipping companies. If it has ivory key coverings, this will complicate export. See
http://www.pianohistory.info/miscellaneous.html

If you have a look near the bottom of my Numbers page,
http://www.pianohistory.info/numbers.html

there are several examples of Welmar numbers, which suggest that your piano was made around 1974. It seems that from 1946, the first 2 digits represent the year.

If you want to search inside the piano for clues, have a look at

If you find old references or links on this site to pianogen.org, they should refer to pianohistory.info

If you contact Butler Smith carriage/ piano removals, they may be able to help with International shipping.
Website >> http://butlersmith.com/piano-removals/2904730

Phone >> 01487 814 263 (based near Huntingdon/ UK) or: 0800 085 0295
Ask to speak to Penny or Tony.

Removal side of things, very reliable and good throughout UK. I haven't used shipping before, so can't comment.

You'll probably need to give full piano spec / weight / dimensions / white key covering type, and the piano may need to be inspected for any insect damage/ woodworm (whether you know or not! ) .... quarantine via Au is quite strict, if it stops there. Also, will need to know the nearest shipping port you live closest too - i.e. Southampton/ Liverpool.

I don't think "economical" comes into it.... will be expensive from NZ to UK.... but try Butler for a start.

Hope that helps

Many thanks for prompt and helpful replies.

1974 seems bout right as the Welmar was a present from my dad to my mum probably when I was in the 5th form.

Will contact Butlers.
Thanks again
