Age of my Sames piano

Post by turnip26 »

Hello All

I've just rescued a Sames piano and I am trying to find out the age of it. It is an upright in dark wood with the central panel inlaid with touches of mother of pearl. It was original sold by R W Pentland of Edinburgh who I believe stop trading around 1938. I have also read that the Sames piano factory in Birmingham burnt down in the late 1920s but that is as far as I've got. The serial number, stamped on the right hand side under the top lid is 20022, and there is a second number to the left 4637. I've attached a few images. Can anyone help me date it please? Neil

It is difficult to know which is the actual serial number, but my guess is the longer number. It might be around 1921, that seems reasonable from the photos, but no precise date is available.
