How old is my Kuhse piano?

Post by nina »

Hello, could you help me to get some informations about an old piano. There's a D.R.Patent No. 45535 which could belong to Kuhse. The number behind the bass strings is 7013. There's another stamp: L. Isermann and next to it a number: 346.
Thank you.

How old is my Kuhse piano?

#7013 might indicate a date somewhere around 1903, but no exact information is available about Johann Kuhse, of Dresden. The DRP number was being mentioned by the 1890s. Isermann made the action - the working parts of the notes.

Is it possible you could either upload some photos of the WHOLE piano here, or email them to me to post?

At a guess, I would say this piano has been modernised, and there are no recognisable features left that give me any obvious clue to its age. If you want to look for clues inside the piano, have a look at

I would guess this was made around 1918. Unfortunately, very few dates of their serial numbers are available, but if you can find any numbers inside the top, these would be interesting for me, but not necessarily helpful to you! :D

Ask your tuner if it is safe to remove the action, and look for the action makers' name and number on the rear of the action. I may be able to date this.
