John Brinsmead number of keys

Hello all. I am looking at buying a John Brinsmead and Sons upright. The seller has indicated the piano is from the 1930's. I have looked at the online photo and the piano has 84 keys only. Is this any indication of its age?

In a word, no! It was quite normal for British pianos to have 85 notes (A-A) as late as the sixties, as you can read about a third of the way down the page at

It won't be 84 though. Ask for the serial number, that may confirm the date.

OK, thanks Bill. Yes you are correct, I see now there are 85 keys. I am going to view the piano today, so I will look for a serial number.
