I need help in shaping a career in music. I am an upcoming musician who specializes in percussion and drums. I feel I’m a pretty skilled percussionist. I need some help in networking , i.e. meet the right kind of people at the right place either in person or through the internet. I need to know agencies who promote people like me. If on the internet, then I would like help is designing a specific website which will promote me.

Agents can get you work but some are a complete wast of space if you are good then seek out all the recording studios close you they some times need good session drummers but you will need some demo's

Personal web sites can be very good at promoting your profile, if you have testimonials from users of your skills all that better. However, the website has to be found in the search engines a too geeky website my look good and trendy but sites like that tend not to be found in the search engines put one of your demons on U tube if Goggle has not puled the plug for UK users putting music up there

Okay to be clear, I'm not in show business and do not consider myself to be an expert in the area at all. Some obvious things came to mind:

1. Do you have a target audience or do you know the niche you could fit into?
2. Consider putting together a demo so that it's always ready when you need it.
3. Marketing - think of free publicity like Youtube, MySpace Music site, website for example. There are lots of musicians making use of the MySpace Music site because it allows them to post their own music material and to get a following.

I know for actors that the agent and manager are important for helping make connections. I know a couple of guys who have made great connections by working for the local music service. One guy in particular that I used to work with played in the Westend and went with tours because others noticed him in the local community first. No matter what you are going to do, very often (and increasingly often) it's who you know that will get you you're first break.

You may also decide that you want to have your own drum studio and be an instructor. You can also be a music producer, drum tech, recording engineer, composer, or working in the music industry as a label executive, or music publishing company.

If you are a technical person, you may want to work in the software design companies, designing drum patterns, loops and programs.

There are many opportunities and careers in music and networking is important. By attending music conferences, joining a musician’s union, performing rights organization or music social media sites might help open new doors.
