Hi Withindale, Yeah, I know, but I decided to keep it to new pianos to keep it simple. I have linked to a couple of dealers like Chris Venables and Bluthner, who also sell used pianos, and on my links page I have a link to here, so people will be able to find it. Hello! I have decided to put on my teaching website a 'which piano should I buy', based largely on my own experience, what technicians have told me and of course, information from this site. I've kept all the information positive - so, if I present a balanced view I'm not going to say anything which...

Re: Yamaha C3, C3X, C7M & CFIII comparison

I would try other examples of the same makes - other Yamaha C7s, simply because all pianos are different. Then you could look at Kawai, Boston, the chinese pianos (Brodmann, Hailun, Feurich - although if you have 35k I probably wouldn't bother), and you may also find some Steinway Bs around that pri...

I thought string breakage was par for the course, but then, I went through conservatoires where the pianos were breaking all the time. Even new Steinways were suffering. Re: Best Value Upright Piano?

I wouldn't say the serial number is the most important thing in the world, especially for a company that no longer functions. What you need to know is what condition the piano is in, what work has gone into it etc. What does restored mean? How much are they actually wanting for the piano? As a rule,...

It was just the microphone on the camcorder, which has a bit too much mid-treble range. I haven't had any work done yet other than having the springs lubricated. Re: Best Value Upright Piano?

You can find some pretty good deals even in shops like Steinway and Bluthner, if they've accepted trade ins. The pianos that are not part of their new or rebuilt inventory and that are by other makers tend to be priced very low for clearance. There are some pretty decent pianos hiding in some places...

You should look out for Knight, Chappell, Welmar, Broadwood - preferably models that have been made in the last 30 years. Sometimes you can find a piano that's older and is playing well, but pay a lot less for them. Challens can be decent instruments too, if you get one with a full schwander action ...

In the past 10 years, piano making in the UK has stopped, and only recently been resurrected at Cavendish, and Broadwoods. It's a decent sounding piano. From the sound clips I couldn't really tell, and will have to spend some time with one. My criticism is that it's perhaps a bit uneven sounding, and lacking in the ability to produce a real singing tone. That said, most brand new pianos don't sing well, and the sound wa...

I guess the best thing to do is take a note of the name. You'll find that on the inside of the keyboard's cover. Take photos. Then, open up the top, take pictures of the inside and perhaps try posting the pictures of the piano in the piano history section. Good luck.

Today I came across a very interesting Bluthner Style 8 piano in Norwich. It was built around 1918, and has an exceptional art case. OK, since being in Norwich the piano has become progressively worse - much worse. Now the keys don't return properly, even the keys that do return are feeling like they are down.
