Baffling
Regular viewers may remember that when I joined the forum in 2007 I was in a state of barely-controlled hysteria over a buzzing B-natural (the first one above middle C) on a Yam C7 in our school hall. Since then the piano's had a lot of attention from some excellent technicians and the buzzing prett...

Re: I need a tech
160,000 inhabitants? You're havin' a laff; there's just over 60,000 of us clinging to this rock and even that's pretty snug. There are a few tuners over here, but I would rather get someone across from the mainland for this job. I'm expecting the thing to fall apart like a clown's car when it's fina...

I need a tech
My C3 has been on its side in storage since mid-December whilst my new house is being made ready. The time has come for it to be put back on its legs and I would like a good technician to come and give it a service and tuning to check that everything has survived the storage and is in good order. As...

Goddammit - everyone's going Brodmann-mad on this forum! And now I find they even come with their own go-faster stripes. I'm trying to stay faithful to my C3 but it's so hard when those Brodmanns are so lovey and shiny and name-on-the-sideyMy brodmann has the shiny name on the side.

It's remarkable how often the first thing new IT equipment does is to royally screw-up the old systems that gave nobody any trouble for years.

Re: what make do you recommend ?
you can buy direct from Colin Taylor at Brodmann UK I am in Yorkshire and Besbrode have a good deal on (Ithink!) I might be around Yorkshire-way over half-term, if so I'll pop in and try one. I bought a C3 a while back so I won't be buying anything new for a while, but I'd like to test drive a Brod...

Re: what make do you recommend ?
Yeah, I think good preparation is the key. I found my Yam C3 too bright for the room it's in, but since it's been thoroughly voiced it's really beautiful. Without some professional TLC they are too bright for me. They're such good value for money, given that the tone is easily modified to suit your ...

At the very least if he asks for a cup of tea I'd reply that I'd be delighted to offer him one, provided that he supplies a tea bag, a mug, some boiling water, milk and sugar, mixes them together, rinses the cup afterwards and puts it back in the cupboard, thanks awfully.

Re: Yamaha logo - my vision for the future
I found this just now: http://www.pianodecals.com/store/product.php?productid=4393&cat=100&page=1 It seems to be what I was looking for. Surely Yamaha wouldn't have an issue with applying the logo to one of their own pianos? If anything it's free advertising for them. I'm surprised they don'...

Yamaha logo - my vision for the future
Right, I know this is completely trivial and nothing more than the equivalent of 'go-faster stripes' on cars, BUT.... you know the Yamaha tuning forks logo that they put on the side of the CFIII? Can you buy them to put on e.g. a C7? I was looking at ours during a recital the other day and thinking ...

Re: Grotty strings
I don't mean to sound unreasonable, but I don't really understand why the tech won't do it for you. Isn't this precisely the sort of specialist service that you pay him for? Problem = piano sounds bad; Solution = hand over some cash to a professional to make it sound better. In your position I'd be ...

Re: So how is your practise going, and what are you learning?
Well, let's just say I'm unlikely to die from over-practice anytime soon. Always one to find an excuse, I have to force myself to play after a day of teaching and rehearsing music at school. To get any continuity at all I try to get into school early and do half an hour before the balloon goes up fo...

Blimey O'Reilly - a new format. I think it's better than the old one, which is saying something coming from a conservative old git like me. The new smilies are good too; the pianist appears to be playing some Michael Nyman.

I was the organist in Tolga Kommune 1991-1994. Tolga's very small - it's between Tynset and Roros. Have you heard of Tone Holbaekmo and Hans Fredrik Jacobsen? Do you know wot; whenever I talk to 'trade' blokes I always sound like a cross between Kenneth Williams and Julian Clarey; I just feel such a pansy enquiring as to when I'll be able to move my piano in. I haven't found a gruff, manly way of doing it. ...

I'm moving into a house which is being converted from its former life as a shop. My Yam C3 has had to be put into storage until the floor in the new place is finished "sometime in January". I caught myself pacing up and down the living room today, staring mournfully at the space the piano ...

I see from today's Times that Brenda is delivering the annual Headmistress' Speech from the Imperial Music Room.
